The best of India’s cultural wealth is thrown in sharp relief during spectacular devotional performances by diverse artistes trained in varied disciplines as part of the ongoing Brahmotsavam.  In all, 1,500 artistes drawn from various parts of the country are involved in showcasing the devotional pageant of Brahmotsavam in all its splendour.  

Tirupati: The best of India’s cultural wealth is thrown in sharp relief during spectacular devotional performances by diverse artistes trained in varied disciplines as part of the ongoing Brahmotsavam. In all, 1,500 artistes drawn from various parts of the country are involved in showcasing the devotional pageant of Brahmotsavam in all its splendour.

Artistes with differing levels of skills and abilities, but with extraordinary talents are performing with gusto in front of the processional deities as part of Vahana Sevas in Four Mada Streets, adding verve and colours to the divine extravaganza.

During the mega religious fete on Tuesday morning, the Aghora dance that was performed by 50 members of the Sri Maruti Nasik dolu team, led by Sri Shivramakrishna, in front of the Kalpavruksha vahanam won the hearts of devotees.

Aghora artistes, some carrying trishuls and others decked up as Gods --Brahma, Maheswara, Vinayaka etc. held the crowd captive with their scintillating performances. The cultural feast was organised by artistes of HDPP,Annamacharya project, and Dasa Sahitya. In all, 20 artistes of Gudiyattam also presented Dappu vadyam, involving four big drums, eight small drums and four talas at the vahanam.

Another team from Rajahmundry, led by Smt Hemalatha of the Garudadrivasa Bhajana Mandali, presented the unique Sagara Mathanam depicting Mahalakshmi, Kamadhenu and Kalpavruksha. The highlight of the Vahanam procession was a splendid display of Maharashtrian dance by 60 artistes led by Sri Aravind Kapoor of Sholapur.

Dressed as Gopikas carrying butter pots, they enthralled devotees in the galleries. Members performing Chakka Bhajans and Kolattams were also part of the entourage of the Lord Malayappaswamy at the Four Mada streets. Members of HDPP, Annamacharya project, SV College of Music and Dance and Dasa Sahitya Project were among those anchoring the cultural activities, which included bhakti music, dances, folk arts display like kolattam, tappeta gundlu and dappu vadyam, besides harikatha discourses.

Classical dances and commentaries were featured by exponents during Vahana Seva. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) had invited award-winning artistes to perform at all venues on Tirumala and in Tirupati. The focus of the cultural bonanza is to present the lores of Lord Venkateswara and sanatana dharma. The aim is to give a devotional elixir to devotees so that they go back with fond memories of Brahmotsavams.

Referring to other cultural activities in store, HDPP secretary Ramakrishna Reddy said that artistes from West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana would display their artistic skills during Vahana Seva morning and evening along the Four Mada Streets. Besides, there would be performances at Nada Niranjanam, Asthana Mandapam at Tirumala and Mahati, Annamacharya Kala Mandiram and Ramachandra Pushkarini at Tirupati.
