Hyderabad: A woman’s body was exhumed on the directives of Task Force Police after they suspected that she was murdered by her own children. The incident which happened a year ago, under Shahinayatgunj police station limits, came to light on Tuesday. According to police, Lakshmi Bai alias Ayesha, 55, of Goshamahal area, who lost her husband quite early in her life, had inherited his properties that ran into several crores of rupees.

Her son, Babu, 40, and daughter, Kiran, 32, had on several occasions tried their best to force her mother to divide the properties among them but the mother consistently refused to do so. "Babu’s mother married a businessman, Jameeluddin, 20 years ago after the death of her first husband," the cops added.

Upset with their mother for not getting the properties in their names, the greedy son and daughter conspired to kill her. According to police, when Ayesha was in deep sleep, they strangulated her to death and buried the body in their backyard in January last year.

After that the “deadly duo” concocted a story that thier mother Ayesha had gone to her sister’s place in Bengaluru and would return soon. A few days later, the duo filed a complaint saying she had gone missing. Since then the Shahinayatgunj police had been investigating the case.

It took the police an year nail the culprits. They spilled the beans and admitted to have killed their mother for the prop erty, the cops added. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. A team of forensic doctors was brought to the house where an on-the-spot post-mortem examination was conducted. The Clues team collected samples for DNA test to establish the identity of the woman. ACP (Goshamahal) K Ram Bhupal Rao said that they were trying to find out if any other persons were involved in executing the murder.
