55 kg gold seized; 70 held at Vizag airport

On Monday, 55 kg gold has been seized at Visakhapatnam International airport from over 70 passengers by the Custom officials.

The passengers are said to be from Tamil Nadu who arrived from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in three different flights concealing the gold in electronic goods such as Microwave ovens and DVD players.

With this attempt, this turns out to be the third gold seizure in a month at airports. The security tightening at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has resulted in the shift of activities to Visakhapatnam airport.
