Jail for 407 drunken drivers

Hyderabad: As many as 407 people were imprisoned during January 2017 for drunken driving, apart from being fined to the extent of Rs 23,66,000 in all.
Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Jitender, said that the courts had ordered as many as 217 drunken drivers to do community service and also sit in the court till the end of the day, apart from paying the fine.
Besides, the courts awarded 200 drunken drivers imprisonment for periods ranging from one day to five days.
As many as 627 cases were registered against drunken drivers between January 1 and 19. The special drive against drunken driving was being conducted during day time also, Jitender said.
