Hyderabad: It appears that criminal case is nothing new to Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dharavath Venkateshwara Rao who was arrested in connection with the murder of Bhukya Nagaraj on Tuesday.
He was earlier arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on charges of possession of disproportionate assets in 2011. This came to light after Rao made sweeping allegations against the police on Wednesday.
Rao, who was admitted to a hospital after he collapsed at the Jubilee Hills police station due to exhaustion, told media persons that he was implicated in the case as he refused to pay a bribe of Rs 2 crore demanded by the police.
Refuting the allegations, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Zone, A Venkateshwara Rao said the accused IAS officer was making false and baseless allegations with an ulterior motive to escape from criminal liability.
The accused made the wild allegations to deter the investigating officers from proceeding with further investigation and taking the case to a logical conclusion, the DCP said adding that necessary legal action would be initiated against the accused for making false and baseless allegations.
Meanwhile, a local court remanded the accused IAS officer and his son D Venkata Sukruth to 14 days judicial custody.
