Hyderabad: Decks have finally been cleared for engineering admissions in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states. The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) said that certificates verification for engineering admissions would be commencing from Thursday in Andhra Pradesh state and in Telangana state it would start by August 9.

This decision was taken after a nearly three-hour long meeting the Principal Secretaries of higher education of Andhra Pradesh and TS had a meeting with State Council of Higher Education. The meeting witnessed war of words between the officials of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states over the engineering admission process.

TS principal secretary for Higher Education Vikas Raj questioned competency of the APSCHE to conduct engineering counselling process and wanted to know why they had not invited the chairman of TSCHE. Taking strong objection to this, AP Principal Secretary Neelam Sinha and APSCHE chairman Prof. L Venugopal Reddy said that as per AP re-organisation Act, the APSCHE had been given authority under 10th schedule for conducting common admissions for both the states for ten years.

At this stage, the TS officials protested saying that they were not given the minutes of the last meeting. Neelam told them that the minutes were placed on the website and said that if they want it the APSCHE would send the minutes to them.

Later, Prof. L V Reddy told the media that the Telangana government urged the council to give them 2-3 days of time as the help line centres in Telangana lacked facilities for certificate verification. However, in Andhra Pradesh, the process of certificates verification would commence from August 7 and last date for verification is August 23, Reddy informed.

The chairman of APSCHE said that the Telangana government would fill in the lacunae by calling large number students for verification on every day. “Instead of calling 1-5000 ranks on the day one, the Telangana government would call students who got 1-10,000 ranks on the day one.

Verification process would be completed by August 23 in both the states. At any cost, the admission process would be completed by August 30 and classes would commence from September 1 in both states as per the Supreme Court directive,” Reddy made it clear. On the fee reimbursement issue, the chairman said that the committee did not discuss it.
