The work on the prestigious Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) hospital located at Bibinagar in Nalgonda district was started in February 2009. The new government has fast-tracked completion of pending works at the hospital like installation of the equipment and other infrastructure facilities before February 2015. The centre will cater to the medical needs of nearby districts of Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Medak and Warangal.

Dr Rajaiah, Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of health, who inspected the building on Tuesday, said that the TRS government was striving hard to ensure distribution of medicines to the rural population at every doorstep. He added that it was unfortunate that the construction of the premises remained incomplete even after Rs 72 crore was spent in the last nine years.

A review meeting was conducted in the hospital premises where it was decided that the outpatient block at the location would be opened in the next three months, followed by opening of 300 beds in the first phase. The remaining 700 beds including the superspeciality hospital would be opened in second and third phases.

Dr L Narendranath, director, NIMS, said, “There are infrastructural inadequacies at the hospital like flooring, electricity lines, water connections, pipelines and fire-fighting equipment. Beds and other paraphernalia are to be fixed too. We are reviewing the report of the expert committee of senior engineers for completion of balance work before February 2015.”

The director added that the Institute of Translational Research (ITR) is setting up a research centre at the location with a capital of Rs 1,000 crore. This hospital will have all the basic specialties like general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, dental, ENT, ophthalmology and trauma care centre.
