The plays being staged at Sri Venkateswara Anam Kalakendram in Rajahmundry as part of the ongoing Nandi Natakotsavam are not only providing entertainment to audiences but also communicating strong messages besides depicting the issues in society. One such social play Nirbhaya Naa Koothuru staged by Bahuroopa Nata Samakya appealed to every women to not succumb to atrocities of men and fight back against those who resort to violence and rape.


The director SK Misro appealed the people through the play to not show complacency towards sexual assaults and rapes against women. The audience enjoyed each and every moment of the play and lauded the innovative approach of the director. The social playlet Old is Gold staged by Montessori Cultaral Unit-Ullamparru, West Godavari, depicted the rich culture and heritage of India and explained how old traditions being promoted by elders always have scientific significance.


Though the present generation turns a blind eye towards old traditions, director KS Prakasa Rao was successful in convincing the youngsters that traditions are always useful. Another verse play Lakshmamma Katha staged by Geetha Kalamandir Nata Sikshnalayam-Tanuku was based on a true story dating back to the 19th century in Krishna district. Through the play, director K Rajyam portrayed the actual conditions of the society two centuries ago. The play was written by Venkata Suryanarayana.
