Nalgonda: Hundreds of people thronged banks and ATM centres on Tuesday after the three-day break to banks ended. People standing in serpentine queues before banks and ATM centres were seen all across the district.

Meanwhile, in the name of cash crunch and for providing money to all customers, many banks, including nationalised and private, restricted withdrawals to Rs 4,000 for savings account and Rs 10,000 for current account holders.

Majority ATMs, as usual, displayed no cash boards. Only ATMs those attached to bank premises provided Rs 2,000 to few people and later they too ran out of cash. Senior citizens and mothers of newborn babies had to suffer a lot standing in queues.

Veteran Rama Narsiah (80) of Annaram village questioned the authority of government over poor people’s money and said it is was unfair to lay restrictions.

He demanded that the government lift the limit on net transactions in banks. However, a few Nalgonda citizens who received Rs 500 notes at Andhra bank ATMs post 35 days of note ban felt happy.
