A pleasant evening was made more pleasant with music and dance at the homely amphitheatre Saptaparni on Monday.Committed to art, and in their unceasing endeavour to support young artists, ‘Shankarananda Kalakshetra’headed by the well known Bharatanatyam danseuse, Ananda Shankar Jayant presented two young artists under their “Continuum Series - The Future Presented”.

The small but serious audience gave their undivided attention and savoured every moment of the art that flowed after years of training.

Ravi Kanth, a product of Vizianagaram Music College sang from his heart filled with bhakti –the lyrics of Tyagaraja and Bhadrachala Ramadasu came alive with his rendering.

The ease with which he weaved the notes showed a strong foundation that was later polished by his gurus, Sri Prata Krishnamurty and Sri Malladi Suribabu. Two bright youngsters ably supported him - Siva Krishna Swarup on violin and Chandrakanth on Mridangam.

Dressed in an elegant green and gold costume, the tall and lissome Shreya Iyer took over the stage next, starting with a Thodayamangalam. This young lady from the US chose dance as career and teaches in her mother Suganda Srinath’s Jayendra Kalakendra in California.

Years of training that is steeped in tradition under able gurus like the Dhananjayans, reflected in her neat adavus, unexaggerated abhinaya and a commendable stage presence.

While Shreya excelled in the well choreographed “Nrityopaharam” (Subramania Bharathi’s), emotion filled “Baaro Krishnayya (Kanaka Dasa’s), it is in Dharmapuri Subbaiyar’s Javali that she sparkled.

“Era Rara” in Kamas- a Kalakshetra choreography, brought out the best in her –as a nayika who is subtle, sensuous and shy, yet bold enough to invite her lover to come and embrace her – as awoman, who is fully confident of her charms and knows how to get the man that she fancies.

Here’s wishing the young artists, a bright future!
