Adilabad: Devotees made a beeline to the Shiva shrines in districts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Asifabad to celebrate Maha Shivaratri festival. The temples were full of people right from the morning, with women offering special ‘abishekam’ with milk to the deity, while chanting ‘Harahara Shambo’ ‘Shambo Shankara’. A tragedy marred the festivities in Mancherial district, when two youngsters of Jafarnagar were drowned in the river Godavari. Their families wept inconsolably on receiving the tragic news.
In Adilabad town, Municipal Chairman Manisha Pavan Rao performed special puja to the Shiva lingam. In Jainad mandal, girijans from various places visited the Badi temple in large numbers to have darshan of Nandiswara. Minister Jogu Ramanna along with his family members offered special puja in the Shiva temple at his native village. Boath MLA Rathod Bapu Rao and his family members visited the Sirichella Mallanna temple in Sirikonda mandal and offered special prayers.
A large number of devotees thronged the Papaparameswar temple in Dilavarpur mandal of Nirmal district, which is considered a holy shrine. People believe that their wishes would be fulfilled if they worship the deity, after undertaking a ‘padayatra’. Pilgrims offered special puja to Mata Annapurna Devi inside the temple. Among the visitors was Basara temple Executive Officer Venkateshwarlu.
Devotees also visited the Godiseryala Siva temple in Kadem mandal and also temples in Tarlapad in Khanapur mandal and performed ‘abishekam’. The organisers made special arrangements for the visitors, including drinking water and food.
Among the visitors to the Mallanna temple in Vellala village of Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district was Collector R V Karnan, who also performed special puja. At Kannala village in Bellampalli mandal a large number of devotees thronged the shrine of Buggarameswar to offer special worship. Among them was Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinniah.
