Record turnout at zoo on Wednesday

The Nehru Zoological Park witnessed a record crowd of 40,000 people on New Year’s Day. The only other occasion when the zoo had more than 40,000 visitors on a single day, was in May 2012.

The collection too crossed Rs 10 lakh, a record for a single day’s collection. Authorities at the zoo said that most schools in the city reopen on January 2 and that is probably the reason for the record turnout.

Another heartening feature was that only 158 cars entered the zoo. On the previous occasion when such a large turnout was witnessed, more than 400 cars had entered the zoo.
