DigiGirlz, A Microsoft youth spark program started in the year 2000 to provide an opportunity for high school girls to get an early exposure into tech careers, was hosted in Hyderabad today. This event is one in a series of DigiGirlz events hosted worldwide and the fourth DigiGirlz to be organised in India. Around 400 students have participated to date.

Hyderabad: DigiGirlz, A Microsoft youth spark program started in the year 2000 to provide an opportunity for high school girls to get an early exposure into tech careers, was hosted in Hyderabad today. This event is one in a series of DigiGirlz events hosted worldwide and the fourth DigiGirlz to be organised in India. Around 400 students have participated to date. They have had an opportunity to interact with senior Microsoft executives and participate in product demonstrations that would excite them about careers in technology.

DigiGirlz Day in Hyderabad saw school girls from St. George’s Girls Grammar School interacting with Microsoft employees. The students enjoyed building games with Kodu, a simple visual programming language. Later in the day, the girls were excited to learn tips for using Microsoft Excel in a smarter way. The session also showcased Bing and how it can be of use in their daily studies.

A panel of senior technical women spoke about their careers and also took several questions from the students. The session ended with the DigiGirlz visiting the Microsoft Visitor Center where they experienced various Interactive installations. Speaking on the occasion Chitra Sood Director, Business Management of Microsoft India said “DigiGirlz showcases the power of technology to high school girls and also highlights career options in technology- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) for women. She further added that Microsoft is deeply committed to ensuring diversity and inclusion in the workplace as it fosters an environment where diverse perspectives and ideas can result in innovative solutions”
