Rangarajan appointed as Chancellor of UoH

The Hon'ble President of India, Pranab Mukherjee in his capacity as the visitor of University of Hyderabad (UoH) has appointed Dr C Rangarajan, renowned Economist, as the eleventh Chancellor of UoH. This appointment is for a period of three years. Former Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, Dr Rangarajan is the Chairman of the Madras School of Economics, President of the Indian Statistical Institute and the Founding Chairman of the CR Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science.

He also served as the Governor of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh from November 1997 to January 2003. After demitting office, he took charge as the Chairman of the twelth Finance Commission. Dr. Rangarajan taught at several institutions including the University of Pennsylvania and the IIM-A. He taught Economics at IIM-A for the postgraduate and the doctoral courses.

His textbook on Macro Economics is used in business management schools. He was awarded the title of Honorary Fellow of IIM-A in 1997. In 2002, the Government of India conferred upon him the Padma Vibhushan. While serving as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
