New Delhi: For the second day running, two TDP MPs Y S Chowdhury and C M Ramesh on Tuesday were suspended for the day, as they protested demanding keeping Andhra Pradesh united. Later, C M Ramesh and the other suspended TDP members in Lok Sabha said the Congress was responsible for the decisions it has taken in the State, causing widespread unrest. It was to protest against this that they have raised their voice in Parliament. When they were suspended, they were staging peaceful protest in Parliament House complex, but they were forcibly evicted.
As Wednesday happens to be a day off for Parliament on account of Janmashtami, the TDP MPs will resume their protests in Rajya Sabha on Thursday and after the expiry of their suspension period, the TDP MPs will also resume their protest in Lok Sabha on Friday. In the Upper House on Tuesday, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien suspended C M Ramesh and Y R Chowdhary for the day under Rule 255.
The two TDP MPs were suspended from House for a day on Monday also on same ground. The action came after Ramesh and Chowdhary trooped into the well holding placards as part of their continuous protests since the Monsoon session began on August 5. When P J Kurien read out rule and took the action, members from AIADMK, BJP, CPI, CPM and Trinamool Congress registered their protest to the action by saying a loud “No.” Kurien repeatedly asked the members to withdraw from the House, saying, “I will be forced again to take action against you. Please don’t make me do the unpleasant job. You are my friend. I request you to go back to your seats. If you do not go back, I am invoking Rule 255.”
Rule 255 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Rajya Sabha states, “The Rajya Sabha Chairman may direct any member whose conduct is in his opinion grossly disorderly to withdraw immediately from the Council and any member so ordered to withdraw shall do so forthwith and shall absent himself during the remainder of the day’s meeting.”
However, as his repeated appeal to them to go back to their seats and allow functioning of the House went in vain.
