New Delhi: Troubles for the beleaguered Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje mounted on Friday with the disclosure that she was the beneficiary of investments of over Rs 11 crore made by tainted IPL ex-commissioner Lalit Modi in her son's company at a high premium.

An affidavit filed by Raje before the Election Commission showed that she had 3280 shares in Niyant Heritage Hotels, owned by her son Dushyant Singh, an MP. Modi had invested over Rs 11 crore in this company at a huge premium of over Rs 96,000 per share of Rs 10.

This disclosure generated charges that Raje had benefitted from Modi's controversial investments which the Rajasthan BJP President Ashok Parnami rebutted by claiming that these shares had been "gifted" to her by Dushyant and his wife Niharika.

Dushyant and his wife had gifted 1615 and 1665 shares, respectively to Raje on her birthday, according to Parnami who saw nothing wrong with it.

According to BJP’s defence, the secret draft by Raje was not addressed to any court.

The signed document being raised by Congress led to no help for Lalit Modi, said the BJP's Rajendra Rathore.

Until the date of the signature, the ED had not made any decision on Lalit Modi, nor was he declared an absconder, said Ashok Parnami of the BJP.

"We have so far believed in maintaining a policy of zero tolerance against corruption and it must be upheld. Allegations against several BJP leaders have surfaced in the recent past, but we expect things within the BJP to be put in order in the next seven to 10 days. Vasundhara Raje should step down. The situation is being made to look worse than it is by the media. These issues will be resolved soon," a senior RSS functionary said. Even as the Congress continues to gun for Raje, the CM’s office has clarified that no signature campaign by MLAs was carried out in her favour.

Congress accused her of using state's resources and trying to benefit the Portugal hospital that treated former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi's wife. The opposition party has alleged that Raje signed an MoU with the hospital that treated Lalit Modi's wife. According to the Congress, the MoU had said that the Rajasthan government would provide land to the hospital and incur its financial management.
