Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy, speaking after participating in the disabled walk at the golden jubilee celebrations of the ‘World White Cane Day’ at Malakpet on Wednesday said by walking blind-folded along with the blind and other differently abled people, we could understand the challenges and problems of the blind people.

He said India had to learn a lot from the developed nations in respecting and providing facilities for the physically challenged people. “What they need is empathy and not sympathy,” Reddy said the Braille Park at Malakpet would be developed by HMR with all facilities, landscaping and greenery and training centre for the physically challenged people.

Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao instructed different departments of the government of Telangana to be committed to the welfare of the physically challenged persons.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail is being designed and executed as a disabled friendly system. Special care is being taken to build Metro stations and trains to cater to the needs of people with mobility impairment (wheelchair passengers), visual impairment, hearing and speech impairment.

‘Increase height of Metro Rail pillars’
Hyderabad: The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Committee on Wednesday urged the Hyderabad Metro Railway (HMR) Limited to increase the height of the pillars at the MJ market junction, so that it does not cause any problem during the annual Ganesh processions in that area. A delegation of the Committee, led by its General Secretary Bhagvanth Rao, met the HMR MD NVS Reddy at the latter’s office and submitted a memorandum on increasing the height of pillars. Responding to the request, Reddy immediately called technical team for a meeting and is said to have responded positively towards the issue.
