Warangal: A massive fire broke out in Zubair Book Stall at Hanamkonda Chowrasta during the wee hours of Sunday. It gutted thousands of books. Hundreds of people rushed to the spot to witness the incident. According to officials, the loss was estimated to be about Rs 2 crore.
A short-circuit was said to be the cause for the mishap. Immediately, Fire Services personnel with two engines were pressed into service to douse the flames.
Even after the fire was extinguished, smoke emanated from the large bookstore spread over three floors.
The book stall, established three decades ago, is said to be the biggest such store in Warangal district. It is an important landmark for students from KG to PG, as they can get any book, either old or new.
Shop-owner Mohammed Zubair reportedly suffered a minor stroke after the mishap. He was admitted to a private hospital.
Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhasker, Urban SP A Venkateswara Rao, Hanamkonda DSP Dakshina Murthy and others visited the spot. They reviewed the situation.
