Hyderabad: A day after a social activist, Sunitha Krishnan, launched the ‘ShameTheRapist’ campaign along with a TV Channel and shamed five rapists by posting shocking clips of them sexually assaulting two women, some unidentified persons damaged her car near Charminar bus stop in the Old City on Friday.

Sunitha Krishnan is the chief functionary of a city-based NGO 'Prajwala.' She is carrying out an online campaign against rapists. Speaking to media, Sunitha said, "I have started a campaign against rapists, requesting all people to help trace them. Soon after that my car was attacked."

She said the nearly 8-minute video was shared with her on a mobile messaging service which she had posted online after editing it to one minute. "I feel that someone is trying to intimidate me but I'm not going to get intimidated. Some more such videos will be posted online soon," she said.

She appealed to citizens and law enforcing agencies to help trace the culprits. She also requested people to join the campaign and bring such culprits to shame. "This is not just my campaign, this campaign is for justice, against such crimes," she said. Police registered a case in this connection and suspect it to be a mischief. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Charminar division) K Ashok Chakrawarthy said they registered a case under Section 427 (mischief causing damage) of IPC and took up investigation. A police team visited the spot and found that the window screens of the vehicle were stoned.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Charminar division) K Ashok Chakrawarthy said they registered a case under Section 427 (mischief causing damage) of IPC and took up investigation. A police team visited the spot and found that the window screens of the vehicle were stoned.

"We have been requesting people to upload any kind of problems or videos they come across and put that on Hawk eye so that we can take action. We are working hard to connect people with police station. Policemen are also being trained to be sensitive to people," Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police Swati Lakra said.

Hyderabad police launched a mobile phone application to empower members of the public, improve their security and reach out to them at the time of distress. The app, `Hawk Eye', seeks to turn common people into Citizen Police and involve them into checking crimes, curbing unlawful activities and traffic violations

Meanwhile, All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) president Indira said that people should come forward and support Sunitha who is spearheading the campaign against rapists. A High Court advocate A Vijayalakshmi said that there has been a lot of tampering of evidence in rape cases. “We all know strict laws against rapists are necessary but the question is how effective would they prove to be?” she asked.
