Hyderabad: The TRS government which had initially dealt with an iron hand and scrapped the affiliations of erring engineering colleges including those owned by the TRS legislators, after fresh inspection, gave permission for 1,410 seats in Engineering stream.

After fresh inspections of engineering colleges, a ruling party MLC was given a lion’s share of seats. The colleges owned by him were given permission for 840 seats in various courses for the current academic year. As per the High Court directions, All India Council of Technical Education and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) conducted fresh inspections in petitioner colleges. Inspections were also held in non-petitioner colleges which came forward.

Of the seven non-petitioner colleges inspected, 1,410 seats were allotted to only five colleges affiliated to JNTU-H in various courses. Surprisingly, colleges owned by the TRS MLC got maximum share, that is 840 seats. It is reportedly said that after the first inspections, the MLC had taken up the issue to the highest level in the government.

The five colleges that got the seats have been added to the final phase web counselling. During the first phase of engineering web counselling, 53,347 candidates were allotted seats. Of the total, 41,661candidates reported through self login system. This year, not just in the private engineering colleges, over 100 vacancies were available in the university colleges after the first phase.

In the final phase, as many as 40,000 candidates exercised 15 lakh web options on Thursday, said B Srinivas, Camp Officer, Eamcet. The final phase seat allotment will be made after 6 pm on Friday.
