Hyderabad: The social networking giant Facebook India has joined hands with the Telangana State government to impart training to self-help groups to market their products online.

The first batch comprising 10 representatives was trained at Facebook’s Hyderabad office on Friday. They were trained in the basics of Facebook platform and various features of the platform. The members were given an overview on how to use Facebook to promote their products online.

The SHG representatives were given a step-by-step walk through of ‘Facebook Page’ creation and also some tips on posting engaging content. It may be mentioned here that Facebook India and Government of Telangana inked a deal to conduct training programmes that aims to equip the SHGs in Telangana with necessary technological knowledge to promote their products in the digital space.

Ritesh Mehta, Head of Economic Growth Initiatives for Facebook India said, “This program is part of our continued investment in businesses, developers and the 132 million people who use Facebook in India.

These events, which we are rolling out nationwide, will help entrepreneurs in rural India reach new customers and ultimately grow,” he said. Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said that SHGs would immensely benefit as they would now be able to market their products globally with assistance from Facebook.
