Hyderabad: Leaders of various parties have supported the government’s proposal to introduce English medium in government schools. Stating this after all-party meeting on the new education policy held here on Monday,

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said the leaders from various political parties expressed the confidence that introduction of English medium would help improve the enrolment in schools.

They suggested that biometric system be introduced in government schools to monitor the attendance of teachers and students. They also emphasised the need to provide necessary infrastructure in all the schools.

Srihari said the political leaders also felt that the planning of the education system should be left to the states and the Union government should not meddle in it. The leaders also stressed the need to set up play schools too and attach them to government schools as the private schools were admitting children in the age group of 4-5. T Sagar and J venkatesh (CPI-M) said the new policy would improve the employment opportunities and help reduce social inequalitieis.

Palla Venkat Reddy (CPI) said education system should be changed in accordance with the time. Paturi Sudhakar Reddy, MLC (TRS) said the government schools should introduce the pre-school system. Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy (TDP) stressed the need to encourage the enrolment of girl students. Nalla Surya Prkash Rao (YSRCP) said the government should take steps to ensure that the teachers stay in the place of their posting.
