Hyderabad: The railwaymen had threatened to on an indefinite strike from the first week of March if their demands are not met by the end of February. Railway employees have been voicing their concerns ever since the Seventh Central Pay Commission recommendations were announced.

A charter of demands by the National Joint Council of Action (NJCA) was handed over to the government on December 11, 2015. M Raghavaiah, General Secretary, National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) and South Central Railway Employees' Sangh (SCRES) said,

“There should be recomputation of minimum wage on the basis of actual commodity prices as on July 1, 2015 and also revise the fitment formula.” The Pay Commission Report has given a table depicting the percentage increase provided by the successive Pay Commissions according to which the Second CPC has made an increase of 14.02o/o, the Third CPC gave a rise of 20.06%, Fourth CPC - 27.060/of, fifth CPC - 31.00% and Sixth CPC - 54%.

lt is seen that the percentage increase had been in ascending order all along, and the Seventh C PC has sought to reverse that trend ostensibly for reasons unknown, noted Raghavaiah. The Railway employees are also demanding the upgradation of LDCEs to the post of UDCEs and parity ensured for all stenographers, Assistants, Ministerial staff in subordinate offices and in all organised accounts cadres with Central Secretariat.

The Seventh Pay Commission has recommended abolishing number of allowances and interest free advances in certain departments.
