Khammam: The workers of mid- day meal scheme on Monday staged a dharna at Dharna Chowk demanding the government releasing of the bills that were in pending since one year.

Mid-day meal workers union district leader C H Kumari lead the dharna.

Participating in the dharna, CITU district president Narasimha Rao criticised the government of playing cheap politics with the workers of mid-day meal scheme by not releasing the bills since one year and also not providing job guarantee and identity cards.

He further said that the government was forcing them to serve eggs twice in a week but it was paying money for one egg only, that too only 72 paise. The workers were taking loans from others and serving two eggs in a week.

Rao demanded the government distribution of eggs to the workers so that they could serve them twice in a week. His other demands were increase of menu charges and salaries of the workers along with releasing the bills that were pending.

He also asked the government to give gas cylinders on subsidy for cooking along with providing accidental insurance to the workers. Later, the workers gave a representation to District Educational Officer N Rajesh.

The Union leaders Bala, Nagamani, Venkata Narsu, Dhana Lakshmi, Sultana and P R Devi, CITU leaders T Lingaiah, M Gopal and M Upendar were present along with others.
