Hyderabad: Taken aback by the criticism from the general public over the haphazard digging of roads in the city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has issued instructions to authorities concerned to fill all trenches and pits dug by private agencies and other departments for laying cables forthwith.
The civic body had given permission to trench 1,375 kilometre roads in the city to private agencies and other government departments. However, the officials claim that they had instructed all private agencies and other departments to cover all the trenches at the earliest, and the corporation would not hesitate to file criminal cases against them.
The GHMC officials are worried that even though the corporation had accorded permission to dig only 1,370 kilometres, but in reality about 2,000 kilometres are dug up in city. The officials claim that other government departments including Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and Transmission Corporation of Telangana (TS-TRANSCO) have dug several trenches without seeking any permission from the corporation.
The corporation officials admitted that they have been receiving flood of complaints from the residents and commuters over the dangerous trenches causing hardship.
A senior GHMC engineering wing official told The Hans India that the corporation had given permission to Reliance Communications to trench 1,110 kilometres in the city to lay underground 4G cable; 270 kilometre permission to the water board, Transco and other government agencies.
Of them, Reliance Company had completed about 550 kilometre works and the corporation has asked it to cover all trenches dug in various locations in the city, he said. The official also said that the civic body had already instructed authorities concerned to identify all illegal trenches in the city and slap notices on them.
The official further said that the civic body would file criminal cases on all agencies that have dug illegal trenches in the city.
He said that they had identified about 2,000 kilometre roads, where illegal trenches were dug in the city.
