Varni (Nizamabad): District Collector Yogitha Rana directed the field officers to remain alert and take precautionary steps against the spread of seasonal diseases in the district.

Addressing the village sarpanches, MPDOs, ANMs, school headmasters, ICDS officials at a review meeting in the MPDO office at Varni in the district on Saturday, she said the officials of various departments should coordinate with each other and ensure that the viral fevers do not spread during the rainy season.

The District Collector told the officials not to neglect diarrhea as body becomes weak due to the loss of liquids and potassium, which is essential for the heart. It may also lead to heart attacks, she warned.

She said that many children were suffering from vomiting and their health would be in danger if they fail to get proper medical aid.

Yogitha Rana said that ORS packets would be made available in all the anganwadi centres, schools and panchayat raj offices. She told the village sarpanches and secretaries of gram panchayats to take steps and ensure the supply of chlorinated water to all.

Sanitation works should be taken on war footing to prevent the spread of mosquitoes. The streets should be kept clean, she added.

The District Collector said that the people’s representatives, school headmasters, anganwadi workers, ICDS officials, ANMs, IKP volunteers and village sarpanches to conduct awareness camps on Sunday and educate the villagers about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.

They should be enlightened about the health hazards if the district remains filthy, she added. She said that special meeting should be organised at all the mandals in the district and all the field officers should remain in their respective places.

She said bleaching powder should be sued to clean up water tanks. Every Friday should be declared as a dry day to clean up tanks and vessels.
