TTDP effort to resuscitate party
The TDP Telangana unit (TTDP) which is striving to regain its lost ground, has decided to take up agitations both on its own and also by extending support even to Congress party on certain common issues like fee reimbursement, problems of home guards, etc. It has also decided to join the CPM’s ‘Mahajana Padayatra’ on November 1.
Hyderabad: The TDP Telangana unit (TTDP) which is striving to regain its lost ground, has decided to take up agitations both on its own and also by extending support even to Congress party on certain common issues like fee reimbursement, problems of home guards, etc. It has also decided to join the CPM’s ‘Mahajana Padayatra’ on November 1.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the party senior leaders here on Friday. The senior leaders opined that the only way to revive the party and gear it up to face the next elections was to hit the streets and win the confidence of the people.
The party's senior leaders underlined that the TTDP should speed up the process of appointing conveners for its district units and give them a clear action plan to take on the government. According to insiders, it was decided at the last politburo meeting held at Vijayawada that party general secretary Nara Lokesh would be focusing on TTDP activities for three days in a week.
In the backdrop of this, the party's stalwarts discussed steps required to galvanise the party from the grassroots level and decided to launch agitations on various issues, including fee reimbursement and the problems being faced by the home guards, to begin with. It was also decided to reconstitute the party units in districts by the end of November.
Following this, TTDP working president A Revanth Reddy wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao demanding that the government should regularise the services of home guards, give them weekly off, pay salaries on par with police personnel, provide medical facilities and allowances on par with the TS police, give 30 per cent additional allowance for home guards on traffic duty, etc.
Quoting from the judgement of the Supreme Court given in this regard in 2003, Revanth said that the Apex court had made it clear that the services of home guards should be regularised and they should get all the benefits to which regular police personnel were entitled.
Revanth also reminded about the promises made by KCR before the elections that the TRS government would regularise the services of home guards, provide UGC scales for teachers, etc. The TTDP further decided that it would take up agitations demanding immediate reimbursement of fee across the State and would mobilise the youth on a large scale.
