Vikarabad: Ramulu, a beggar, who is suffering from Hansen’s disease, has been helped by the local people here after he started carrying his wife’s body on a cart on Saturday.

Ramulu and his wife Kavita belonging to Maikada village in Manorabad mandal of Medak district, had been eking out a living by begging in Hyderabad. After brief illness Kavita died at Lingampalli railway station on Friday night.

He wanted to take the body to his native village and the ambulance owner demanded Rs 6,000 for carrying the body.

Expressing inability to pay the amount, he borrowed a pushing cart from someone and brought the body to Vikarabad.

Moved by his plight, the local people collected donations to hire an ambulance to carry the body to his native village.
