Hyderabad: The State government assured the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would lead a delegation to New Delhi to urge the Centre to amend the Constitution and provide for categorisation of Scheduled Castes.

This assurance came after high drama during which three opposition members were suspended from the House for the remaining part of the session.

The suspension was later revoked, following an appeal from Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy. As soon as the House assembled to transact business, TDP and Congress members demanded Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary to take up for discussion the adjournment motion on SC categorisation.

The Speaker told them that the issue could be raised only after the question hour. Ignoring the repeated appeals of the Speaker, some of the opposition members walked into the well and raised slogans.

Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao told the House that the government was ready to discuss any issue and suggested that the subject could be taken up in another form.

While refusing to budge, opposition members demanded that the government should take an all-party delegation to Delhi.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender reminded members that a delegation headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari had submitted a representation to the Central ministers on the issue and said that the government was committed to SC categorisation. He also pointed out that twice the Assembly had passed a resolution unanimously and sent it to New Delhi.

As the opposition members did not relent, Minister for Legislative Affairs Harish Rao moved a motion for the suspension of TDP MLAs A Revanth Reddy, Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and Congress MLA A Sampath Kumar.

Soon after their suspension, Jana Reddy said that the situation could have been easily defused had the Government been clear over taking a delegation to New Delhi.

He appealed to the Speaker to revoke the suspension of the members. At this point, Harish Rao assured members that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would soon take a delegation to New Delhi and also moved a resolution revoking the suspension of the three members.

Meanwhile, MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga demanded that the Chief Minister should write a letter to the Centre before December 30 seeking appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lead an all-party delegation on the issue.

On the other hand, the MRPS Telangana unit on Tuesday thanked the Chief Minister for accepting to lead the delegation.

A delegation led by MRPS working president V Srinivas called on the Chief Minister and thanked him for his decision.
