Hyderabad: The state government has put on fast track the project for installing 125 feet Dr Ambedkar statue in the city. It has asked the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), Hyderabad to prepare the design of the statute and the land development around it.
Decision to assign preparation of a prototype of the Ambedkar statue to JNAFAU was taken after a team of officials returned from China after exploring the possibilities to get the statue fabricated there.
According to social welfare department officials, the JNAFAU will engage 10 sculptors for the preparation of 10 prototypes with a height of one metre offering Rs 1.25 lakh for each prototype. For this, seven sculptors will be engaged from Telangana and three others from across the country.
Speaking to The Hans India, Commissioner of Scheduled Castes Development P Karunakar said: “Each sculptor will be from different style and the government wanted to explore the best among different styles for the iconic statue of Dr B R Ambedkar,” he said.
The JNAFAU had been given 15 days for the preparation of the prototypes and the government would select one among the 10 prototypes. The selected prototype will also be given a cash award of Rs 10 lakh. The JNAFAU was also asked to prepare five designs for the landscaping and ambience which would come up around the statute.
Among the five designs, the state government will select one to come up around the statue. All this process is scheduled to be completed in a month as per the planning, he said.
Another senior official from the engineering department said that orders for calling tenders had been prepared. Once the government selects the design of the statue and land development around it then the orders will be issued calling for bids for fabrication of the state.
