Hyderabad: Telangana doctors, owing allegiance to Indian Medical Association, warned of indefinite withdrawal of all medical services, as per the call given by the national body if Centre gets the contentious National Medical Commission (NMC) bill passed in parliament.
As part of “Dikkar Diwas” held on Saturday, doctors took procession in some districts holding banners opposing NMC. The impact of the call for withdrawal of non-emergency services for 12 hours on Saturday was seen mostly in districts compared to Hyderabad.
Malla Reddy hospitals in Suraram, that are usually flocked by people from neighbouring districts like Medak, stopped OP services while IP and emergency services continued as usual. Dr B Bhaskar Rao of Telangana Super Speciality Hospitals Association stated that they support the stand of Indian Medical Association.
Dr T Narsinga Reddy and Dr A Bharat Prakash of IMA, Telangana State said that they are receiving full support from doctors’ fraternity. IMA has over 12,000 doctors in the State, with a good number of them running their own private hospitals, nursing homes, clinics across the state.
IMA leaders said that all IMA members took active part in protest programmes held across Telangana.
