Vikarabad: District collector Syed Umar Jaleel ordered authorities concerned here on Friday to make alternative arrangements to provide sheep fodder to prevent its shortage due to drought. Speaking at a meeting organized by the managing director of sheep producers association Dr Lakshma Reddy at his camp office, district collector has expressed his concern that there may be shortage of grass fodder due to drought conditions prevailing in the district.

As an alternative, he advised authorities to cultivate ‘stylo grass’ in forests and provide it as fodder for sheep. He also instructed district administration to take necessary measures to prevent transportation of sheep to other states. He said that additional measures need to be taken at check posts to stop smuggling of sheep. He instructed police and transport officials to coordinate with each other in this regard. There is a need to support sheep-rearing farmers and ensure that they don’t end up in losses. Among present in the meeting include additional SP Narsimhulu, District Forest Officer Venu Madhav, transport officer Vani, animal husbandry officer Rahaman and others.
