Secunderabad: It has been six months since the Defence Ministry instructed all the cantonments in the country to open the roads to civilians but as far as the Secunderabad Cantonment is concerned, it has been a far cry.

In a fresh attempt, the Federation for North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) sent a status report on the roads that are still out of bounds for civilians. C S Chandrashekar, the secretary of FNECS, says, “Even after six months of the order the roads have not been opened and what is irking is a new gate has been put up barring people from entering after the May order.”

Laxmi, a resident of Macha Bolarum, said, “There are close to 20 students studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bolarum, from our colony. Ever since the restrictions were placed, life has become difficult.” She adds, “We are hopeful that the Defence Minister would take up the issue once again and we are hopeful that it would be a New Year gift for the residents of the cantonment.”

New Gate comes up

On the road from TASA circle to RSI, a new gate has been constructed after May 18 order. The road is closed from 10 pm to 5 am. Pedestrians and morning walkers are not allowed.
