Hanamkonda: It’s very much a Singidi (rainbow) here on the campus of Kakatiya University (KU), where Rashtriya Kala Manch, under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), was organising a two-day cultural fest, with more than a thousand boys and girls making their presence felt.Adding more colours to the Singidi-2019 was some noted personalities of Tollywood - lyricist Kandikonda Yadagiri, music director/singer Bhole Shavali, choreographer /Kuchipudi dancer NSL Praveena and singer Varam.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the Singidi-2019 presided over by ABVP State president M Prasad, chief guest, noted lyricist Kandikonda Yadagiri, popularly known as Kandikonda, recalled that his journey to success started as an ABVP activist. “I still remember the days when I pasted ABVP wall posters on the walls of KU campus. What I am today is because of ABVP. Although I wrote thousand-odd songs for films, my work on Telangana culture and tradition gives me a lot of satisfaction,” Kandikonda said.

He expressed confidence that the Rashtriya Kala Manch would provide a right platform for the budding artistes.Choreographer NSL Praveena heaped praise on ABVP for organising such an event like Singidi to promote art, culture and tradition of Telangana. “Telangana is one place where people worship flowers whereas in other places flowers are used for worshipping the God,” she said, referring to Bathukamma festival.

Singer Varam said: “In 2011, I was here on this stage as a contestant in a cultural fest. I never looked back since then, Thanks to Kandikonda sir, who gave me opportunity to sing and become popular.”Speaking on the occasion, ABVP State organising secretary J Niranjan explained about the organisation’s journey that started on July 9, 1949. He reeled out the achievements of the ABVP. “The ABVP made people believe that students are not the citizens of tomorrow, but of today.

Besides, waging a constant struggle against the increasing commercialisation of education, the organisation also dwelled on the challenges faced by the country such as illegal Bangladeshi infiltration, terrorism, separatist tendencies in Kashmir etc,” he said.Bhole Shavali said that artistes like him have got immense opportunities to showcase their talent since the formation of Telangana. Later, Bhole Shavali and Varam set the audience on frenzy with the Kolo Kolo Bathukamma number.

According to organisers, as many as 1,200 boys and girls participated in events such classical dance (solo), folk dance (group), skits, drawing, painting, poets meet, classical singing (solo), folk songs (group), rangoli and mono-action.Regional organising secretary Balakrishna, joint organising secretary Ch Siva Kumar, ABVP Rashtriya Prerna State Pramukh Venugopal Rao, State secretary Ambala Kiran, Prerna convener Nagaraju, M Bapu Rao, N Praveen Reddy, KU president Sathish, secretary Mahesh, Rambabu, Rajesh and Sandeep were among others present.
