There are seven Indians in the top 10 of the highest wicket-takers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), while the other three belong West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga is at the top of the list with 170 wickets in 122 matches. Malinga, who has been associated with just one club – Mumbai Indians – also has a five-wicket haul and six four-wicket hauls under his belt.
The Indians who are on the list are Amit Mishra, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.
Mishra, who has had stints with Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, has bagged 157 scalps in 147 matches, the most among his countrymen.
Only three bowlers, in the history of IPL, have claimed as many as six wickets in an innings and all of them are overseas bowlers – West Indies' Alzarri Joseph, Pakistan's Sohail Tanvir and Australia's Adam Zampa.
Tanvir, who was the first bowler to achieve the feat, bagged the record in the inaugural IPL edition in 2008. The Pakistani medium-pacer played for Rajasthan Royals and he picked up six wickets in an innings against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Playing for Pune Supergiants, Zampa was the second bowler to pick six wickets in an innings. His spell of 6 for 19 came in IPL 2016 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Mumbai Indians pacer Joseph was the newest member of the club when he bagged six wickets in an innings in IP 2019 against SRH.
Meanwhile, only two bowlers have two five-fors to their name in the IPL – James Faulkner and Jaydev Unadkat. The Australian all-rounder Faulkner, who has represented Gujarat Lions, Pune Warriors, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, has picked 59 wickets under his belt including two five-wicket hauls.
The 28-year-old Unadkat has played for as many as five IPL franchises and has claimed 77 wickets so far.
The opening fixture of IPL 2020 will be played between CSK and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on March 29.
