Naga, Akhil win Brilliant Trophy chess titles

Hyderabad:Naga Suryasaketh and Akhil Taneti emerged champions in the Junior and Open categories respectively at the 244th Brilliant Trophy Chess Tournament held at Brilliant Grammar High School, Dilsukhnagar.

In the Junior section, Suryasaketh and Mithil Amor finished tied on 5.5 points from six rounds. Suryasaketh of Indu International School, Bandlaguda, Nagole, won the title on tie-break, while Amor finished runner-up. P Nikhil secured third place with five points.

Akhil Taneti dominated the Open category, scoring 5.5 points to claim the title. Jayaditya and Sri Samanvith shared the next two places with five points each.

In age-group competitions, Mithil Amor and P Nikhil topped the Under-15 boys’ section, while K Varshini and K Vaishnavi won the corresponding girls’ prizes.

Sanathan Nanda, Sathya Karthikeya, Gowtham Nanda and Sohansh claimed the Under-13, Under-11, Under-9 and Under-7 boys’ titles respectively. Among girls, Priisha Chakraborty, G Maanya, S Gagana and S Krithvika won their respective age groups.

K Rajagopal was adjudged Best Veteran and R Manaswini Best Woman.
