Tamil Nadu: Vijay-Led TVK Alliance Named ‘Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance’

Tamil Nadu’s ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has been officially named the ‘Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance’.

The name was announced on Wednesday after a meeting of the alliance partners chaired by Vijay at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur, Tamil Nadu. The meeting was held to discuss the formal structure and functioning of the coalition.

Alliance Partners Meet At TVK Headquarters

The gathering was the second major meeting of the coalition since it came to power after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

B Manickam Tagore, president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, Congress Rajya Sabha MP and Assembly floor leader Praveen Chakravarthy and MLA Tharahai Cuthbert were among those who attended.

Senior Lok Sabha members of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Vaiko and his son Durai also attended the meeting.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol Thirumavalavan and leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), including KM Kader Mohideen, AM Shahjahan and Syed Farooq Basha, were also present.

CPI(M), CPI Leaders Skip Meeting

Leaders of the Left parties, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India, did not attend the meeting at the TVK headquarters.

Both parties support the TVK-led government, but their absence from the gathering marked a notable development as the alliance works towards formalising its structure.

TVK Emerged As Largest Force In Assembly Polls

TVK secured a major victory in its first electoral contest in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, winning 108 seats, according to the report.

The party subsequently formed the government with support from its allies.

The Congress, which had been a long-standing ally of the DMK, ended that arrangement following the election results and extended support to the TVK-led government. The Congress had stipulated that communal forces should be kept out of the government.

The TVK-led government has the backing of Congress legislators along with members of other supporting parties.

Congress has five MLAs, while TVK has 107 members in the Assembly, according to the report. The IUML has two MLAs, while two members from VCK and Left-aligned factions provide external support.

The newly announced name is expected to give the coalition a formal political identity as the Vijay-led government moves ahead with its administrative and political agenda.
