Huawei Mate XT 2 Beats iPhone Ultra With Samsung-Like Privacy Display

Huawei has launched its tri-fold smartphone just two days before Apple’s "Surprise and Shine" event, scheduled for September 9. Apple, the iPhone maker, plans to showcase its foldable model at that event. The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design has now been unveiled in China. Will go on sale on September 10. This means both Huawei and Xiaomi have showcased their foldables before Apple enters the segment placing the iPhone, iPhone in a market where Chinese brands have already set the benchmark.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design: Specifications and features

Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design has a 6.5‑inch screen that is LTPO OLED and gives Full‑HD+ detail. You will notice that it can show 120 Hz movement and can get as bright as 6,500 nits. When you open Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design completely you see a 10.2‑inch OLED panel with 3K resolution, 90 Hz refresh and a 12.8:9 shape. Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design’s inner screen also has a hardware privacy mode that stops people on the side from seeing what is on the screen.

For this model Huawei redesigned the folding mechanism. The Mate XT 2 uses an inward‑folding architecture and a new G‑shaped hinge unlike the outward‑folding design used in the Mate XT. The company says the new design also protects the screen when the phone is folded. This tri‑fold smartphone runs on the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, built with Huawei's LogicFolding architecture. Huawei says the Kirin 9050 Pro delivers 42 percent better performance than the previous‑generation chipset along with I find Huawei's new approach exciting.

Mate XT 2 has an NPU and GPU. Mate XT 2 comes with 16 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage. Mate XT 2 has a quad‑camera set on the panel. The main camera, on Mate XT 2 is 50 megapixels uses a RYYB sensor that's 1/1.28 inch and has a variable aperture and optical image stabilization. Mate XT 2 also has a 50‑megapixel RYYB periscope telephoto camera that can zoom 3.5 times plus a 40‑megapixel RYYB camera. Mate XT 2 uses a third‑generation "Red Maple" multispectral colour sensor, which helps the phone show colours accurately. For selfies and video calls Mate XT 2 has 8‑megapixel cameras built into both the inner screens.

The Mate XT 2 contains a 5,600 mAh battery that can be charged at 66W SuperCharge through a cable and, at 50W wirelessly. Even though the Mate XT 2 has a battery and a detailed folding system the Mate XT 2 is only 3.5 mm thick when it is open. The Mate XT 2 weighs 299 grams. Is 12.3 mm thick when it is closed.

The device has IP58 and IP59 ratings. The device keeps dust and water out. The device also has a side‑mounted fingerprint sensor so the device unlocks quickly with a finger. On each edge of the device the device has buttons that let the device record electrocardiograms (ECG). The device works with the M‑Pen 3 stylus. The device supports 5G connectivity Wi‑Fi 7 Bluetooth 6.0 LE, satellite communication, NFC and a USB Type‑C 3.1 port. The device runs on HarmonyOS 7.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design: Price and availability

The price of the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design starts at CNY 19,999 (approximately 281,000 rupees) for the variant with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The model with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB costs CNY 21,999 (approximately 309,000 rupees), while the version with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB is priced at CNY 23,999 (approximately 338,000 rupees).

Huawei also offers a 1 TB version with a privacy screen, for CNY 24,999 which's about 352,000 rupees. The top model, the Collector Edition has 16 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage and the Collector Edition costs CNY 29,999, which's about 422,000 rupees. The Collector Edition also comes with an M-Pen 3 stylus.

The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design comes in three colours: purple and white. It will go on sale in China on September 10. Now there is no word about when it might be available outside of China or what the price will be, in other countries.
