AK Khan visits children recovering from food poisoning
The officials of the GHMC and medical department concluded that that negligence in the preparation of food had led to food poisoning
Shalibanda: Telangana Government Advisor on Minorities Affairs AK Khan on Friday visited Princess Esra Hospital to take stock of the situation.
At least 30 children were admitted in the hospital after allegedly having breakfast provided at the school, located in Shalibanda and run by Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) under the aegis of State government.
Khan, who interacted with the parents and the officials present on the occasion, tried to inquire about the condition of the girl students admitted in the hospital.
He assured the parents of all kinds of support from the government, so that the children get recovered at the earliest.
Most of the children who got sick after eating the food prepared on the school premises in Shalibanda continued to receive treatment on Friday.
Questions are being raised about the quality of the food being supplied at the schools run by TMREIS under the prestigious government programme to provide free education.
Both Congress and the BJP have cast doubts about the way food was being prepared, even though huge funding is provided to the scheme.
The Congress leader from Karwan and MLA contestant, Osman Al-Hajri, demanded the government to make it clear as to how the contracts were handed over in the scheme.
He said that no transparency was maintained in the way contracts were issued.
"This is one of the government's flagship programmes with Rs 350 crore budget, and it is spending Rs 1.2 lakh per student. Despite all this, if this is the situation, how can one claim it as a corporate-level education," he questioned.
Meanwhile, the parents of the students are in dilemma whether to continue to send their wards to the school or not.
Some are said to be having second thoughts in sending their students to the school.
It may be mentioned here that Doctors gave the students emergency treatment and declared that the condition of all the children was out of danger.
On Thursday, the GHMC Officials and Medical Department Officials visited the school and collected the food samples.
After examination, they concluded that negligence in the preparation of food had led to food poisoning.
Charminar MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan also visited the hospital and inquired about the condition of the children.
