BJP, BRS join hands for protest

Gadwal: Farmers and opposition leaders staged a massive protest dharna on the Gadwal-Kurnool main road at Jammichedu on Monday, demanding that the crops are drying up due to lack of irrigation water. They demanded that water be released from the Jurala dam to the canals immediately.

During this agitation, BJP district youth leader DK Snigdha Reddy and BRS leader Basu Shyamala Hanumanthu Naidu along with the farmers sat on the road.

Addressing the media, they said it was outrageous that the Congress government was allegedly not paying attention to the issue even though farmers were suffering due to lack of irrigation water. They demanded that water be released to the canals at least three days a week to protect the crops, and that justice be done to farmers.

The dharna, which lasted for about five hours, brought traffic to a standstill. The authorities reached the spot and assured that water would be released to the canals within 24 hours. With this, the farmers temporarily called off the protest. The leaders warned that if the water was not released within the stipulated time, they would intensify the agitation across the district. BJP and BRS cadres and a large number of farmers participated.
