Congress cadre must work to protect voting rights: Gandra
Bhupalapally: MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao has urged Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) to work responsibly to ensure that the names of all eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls. Addressing the ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao’ campaign organised at the District Congress Committee office on Tuesday as part of the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, he said that the right to vote was vital to democracy.
He called upon Congress leaders and workers to focus on enrolling eligible voters and correcting errors in the electoral rolls. He also asked them to expand the campaign at the village level and raise public awareness about voter registration and voting rights.
Meanwhile, AICC observer KBR Naidu has called upon Congress cadres to work in coordination to protect the voting rights of every eligible citizen.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Naidu urged the Election Commission to ensure transparency during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls so that the names of eligible voters are not removed.
He advised Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) to conduct meetings across all mandals and divisions in the district and thoroughly scrutinise the electoral rolls. He also asked party cadres to raise public awareness through gram sabhas and door-to-door verification.
Congress workers should collect the details of eligible citizens whose names are missing from the electoral rolls and help them submit applications in accordance with the prescribed rules, he said. The leaders stated that protecting voting rights was a democratic responsibility and urged Congress functionaries and workers to ensure that no eligible voter was deprived of the right to vote. They also called upon people from the district to participate in large numbers in the ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao’ mega rally, scheduled to be held in Delhi on November 1.
