Hyderabad: Several senior leaders of Congress were lobbying with the high command to secure Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president post through their channels.
Senior leaders like Ponnala Laxmaiah, Damodar Raja Narasimha, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, V Hanumantha Rao and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy have been requesting the AICC senior leaders to suggest their name for the PCC president's post.
The lobbying intensified after the AICC began the exercise to appoint new chief to Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. Leaders of Telangana Congress were firm that the AICC would also take up the TPCC issue soon.
Sources in the party said that Ponnala Laxmaiah and V Hanumantha Rao were playing the BC card whereas Raja Narasimha was using the SC card. The sources said that the high command would take up the TPCC president issue soon after the end of the process to form the government in Maharashtra.
They said that appointment of new president to TPCC may be done in the last week of this month or in December first week. Party leaders are of the view that the high command is ready to replace present TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy as he completed five years in the post. Usually, in Congress, a long term would not be given to a PCC president.
The senior leaders who are in the race have been presenting their own versions to the seniors of the AICC. Some have been citing the caste equations while others have been trying to impress upon the seniors in the high command with their track record.
A senior leader of the party said that the AICC seniors were giving a patient hearing to the aspirants of the TPCC chief post. They are seeking details from the State leaders who approach them. However, so far, no leader has been given any assurance.
