Hyderabad, Feb 5 (INN): Telangana State Finance Commission Chairman G. Rajesham Goud and Member Secretary M. Chenniah held a meeting on Wednesday inviting the newly elected Mayors of Municipal Corporations from entire State in the Hotel Plaza Begumpet, Hyderabad to discuss the issues relating to the Administrative and Financial devolutions of the Urban Local Bodies in the Telangana State.
The Chairman of the TSFC clarified the purpose and role of the State Finance Commission in begging the proceedings. TSFC Chairman M. Chennaiah elaborated on the position of State and Central Finance Commissions and the difficulties faced by the agent and District Panchayats due to a lack of competences and finances.
Rajesham Goud extensively added from his experience he gained while officiating as Chairman of ZPP and Minister in the State Cabinet.
It was also stated at Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao's keen interest in improving the local Urban bodies and bringing the government to the common man's doorstep. The Chief Minister's brainchild is the reorganization of the ZPPs, MPPs, GPPs, and ULBs. As a result, the number of ZPPs increased from 9 to 32, the number of MPPs from 438 to 539, and the number of GPs from 8368 to 12753, causing political decentralization predominantly. Some of the Mayors participated actively in the meeting and aerated their views and opinions, affirming the need to delegate powers on various subjects enshrined in the 74th Amendment to the Constitution so that there would be political and administrative control over the line departments like public health, power, and welfare, etc.
They demanded the start-up grants to the new Corporations and Municipalities and an increase of the per capita grant, timely release of the assigned revenue for efficient developmental activity. The Chairman promised to make appropriate recommendations to the government on all concerned issues expressed by the participants and requested the delegates to send the representations on the administrative and financial devolutions so that they can be included in the report to be submitted to the government.: Telangana State Finance Commission Chairman G.
