Jangaon Collector urges farmers to opt for alternative crops
Jangaon: District Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha has urged farmers to avoid water-intensive paddy cultivation during the Rabi season and consider alternative crops amid the possibility of reduced rainfall due to El Niño conditions.
Addressing farmers at the Rythu Nestham programme in Chitakoduru village on Monday, the Collector recommended cultivating pulses and oilseeds, depending on soil conditions and water availability. He emphasised the importance of adopting micro-irrigation techniques and water-efficient farming practices to conserve resources and minimise potential crop losses.
The Collector also directed officials concerned to ensure the timely distribution of seeds and fertilisers to farmers.
He urged farmers to make informed crop choices based on local conditions and available irrigation facilities to reduce risks and improve agricultural sustainability during the Rabi season.
