Bhupalpally: Telangana Rythu Sangham district joint secretary Polam Rajender has demanded a fresh re-survey for the proposed construction of canals under the Chinna Kaleshwaram project, insisting that land acquisition should proceed only after all objections raised by farmers are addressed.
Rajender, along with a group of farmers, submitted objection petitions to officials during a public hearing held at the district Collectorate on Monday.
He alleged that irrigation officials had conducted the initial survey for canal construction unilaterally, without providing farmers with adequate information. This, he said, resulted in several objections and disputes over the proposed land acquisition. A fresh survey, he maintained, was necessary to resolve the issues.
Rajender also demanded that compensation be fixed based on the open market value of the land and in accordance with the provisions of the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.
He sought compensation at four times the land value along with 100 per cent solatium.
He recalled that farmers had submitted a petition raising similar concerns to Collector Rahul Sharma during a public hearing on May 4. However, he alleged that no concrete solution had been provided even after four months. He said the Joint Collector had assured the farmers that the issue would be resolved through the Katamra Sub-Collector.
The farmers had also raised objections during surveys conducted in April and submitted petitions to the offices of the MRO, RDO and Collector. Instead of resolving the concerns, the issue was being referred from one office to another, Rajender alleged.
He demanded that award hearings in the villages be stopped and that scrutiny of awards should begin only after a fresh survey is completed and the objections raised by farmers are resolved.
Around 100 farmers participated in the programme. Among those present were MukkerLakshminarayana, P. Jagapathi Rao, PolamChinnaRajender and PolamRajkumar.
