Ministers lead protest in Wanaparthy

Wanaparthy: A peaceful dharna was held on Monday in front of the collectorate, chaired by DCC chief Shiva Sena Reddy, in response to the call given by AICC and directives from the TPCC. The ‘Election Chor of India’ protest saw the participation of Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao, Vakiti Srihari, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with local MLA Thudi Megha Reddy.

Addressing the gathering, Ponguleti asserted confidence that the party was destined to win the next elections in the country. He noted that senior leader Rahul Gandhi has been presenting evidence to the public regarding the issue of vote theft. He alleged that the BJP has come to power for three consecutive terms by using the Election Commission (EC) as a tool.

The minister stated that doubts are being raised nationwide regarding the EC’s conduct, noting allegations that votes are being deleted under the guise of the ‘SIR’ process. He accused the EC of being used as a tool to undermine the democratic system.

Ponguleti demanded action against CEC Gyanesh Kumar calling for his removal and arrest. He emphasised that the EC must function constitutionally, transparently, and impartially, bearing the responsibility to safeguard the voting rights of every eligible citizen.

Meanwhile, Srihari alleged that the ‘SIR’ process is being weaponised to split votes and gain political advantage in areas where non-BJP parties are strong. He criticised the alleged conspiracy to target and remove eligible voters, particularly in Congress-ruled regions. He pointed out that attempts are being made to delete the names of long-time voters from the electoral rolls under the ‘SIR’ process.

“Gyanesh Kumar, you might as well wear a BJP scarf,” he challenged.

Jupally stated that people should teach a fitting lesson to the BJP government for undermining autonomous constitutional institutions. He declared that attempts to undermine the people’s right to vote would not be tolerated.

Later, the leaders submitted a memorandum to district collector Adarsh Surabhi outlining the demands and issues associated with the protest.
