MLA arranges transformer to restore irrigation to 500 acres

Miryalguda (Nalgonda): Farmers cultivating nearly 500 acres under a water lift scheme at Vachya Thanda in Damaracherla mandal of Miryalaguda constituency of Nalgonda district received much-needed relief after irrigation water supply was restored through a temporary transformer.

The machine connected to the water lift was stolen a few months ago, leaving the lift motors non-functional. As a result, irrigation water could not be supplied, causing difficulties for farmers.

After the issue was brought to the notice of Miryalaguda MLA Bathula Laxma Reddy, he spoke to concerned officials and secured sanction for a new transformer. However, as the standing crops require uninterrupted irrigation for another three months, the MLA arranged a temporary transformer at his expense to ensure immediate water supply. He is reportedly paying a monthly rent of Rs 1 lakh for the transformer.

On Monday, the MLA’s wife Bathula Madhavi and their sons Bathula Eshwar and Ganesh switched on the transformer and formally restarted the water lift. With the restoration of the lift, irrigation water is now being supplied to crops spread over nearly 500 acres. Farmers expressed happiness over the resumption of the water supply, saying the timely intervention would help protect their standing crops. They thanked MLA Laxma Reddy for responding promptly to their problem, coordinating with officials to secure a new transformer and making a temporary arrangement at his own expense until the permanent transformer is installed.
