Pressure from officials drives government teacher to suicide attempt

Jagitial : An in-charge headmaster of a government primary school at Chiluvakoduru in Gollapalli mandal allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills, reportedly due to pressure from higher officials.

The teacher, identified as Prashanth, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

According to preliminary information, Prashanth was reportedly distressed over repeated inspections and pressure regarding students’ results, despite the school allegedly facing a shortage of teaching staff. He was also reportedly under pressure to complete the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) programme.

Prashanth is said to have alleged that MEO Cheruku Rajanna repeatedly inspected the school and put pressure on him. He reportedly expressed his grievances in a suicide note, which is said to mention the names of MEO Cheruku Rajanna and Jeevan Reddy.

However, the contents and authenticity of the suicide note and the allegations made in it are yet to be officially verified.

The incident has raised concerns over the workload and administrative pressure faced by teachers. Further details are awaited as authorities investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.
