Sangareddy: Despite the forecast of heavy rain in several districts in Telangana, the southwest monsoon was weak over Telangana during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday.

Rain occurred at a few places across the State. The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) were: Hathanoora (Sangareddy district) 3, Bejjanki (Siddipet) 2, Alladurg (Medak), Jogipet (Sangareddy) 1 each, said the Met department bulletin.

The forecast going wrong can be attributed to the low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its adjoining West Bengal and north Odisha coast now lying over southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha.

The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level tilting southwestward with height. It is likely to become more marked during next 48 hours.

The bulletin persisted with its warning of heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in 16 districts on August 14. According to the forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places across the State from August 14 to 17. No large change during the period August 18-20 is the weather outlook.
