Revenue Darbar fails to offer balm to farmers' woes
They demand full and equitable compensation for their lands
Nagarkurnool: The Revenue authorities and TRS MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy failed to pacify the agitated farmers who have been demanding reasonable compensation to their lands acquired for Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project(PRRLI) in Nagarkurnool district.
On Tuesday, with an aim to address the problems of the farmers who lost land under the Venkatadri Reservoir, which is being constructed in Vattem as part of PRRLI, the Nagarkurnool district authorities along with Nagarkurnool MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy organised a Revenue Darbar programme in the district.
The Revenue Darbar which was held at the tahsildar office in Bijinepally mandal, was attended by 100s of farmers.
In fact, the affected farmers had earlier staged protest and even decided to conduct a march to Hyderabad to meet Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and pour out their problems before him.
However, the Nagarkurnool MLA and the police officials had earlier convinced the farmer not to go Hyderabad and they would settle it amicably in due course.
As part of this initiative, the revenue officials lead by district Joint Collector Srinivas Reddy and Revenue Development Officer Hanuman Nayak addressed the gathering and tried to find out their problems.
Nagarkurnool MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy who presided over the meeting promised the farmers that they would get justice and there is no need to get panicked and mislead by some people who are politically motivated.
"The farmers have demanded equitable compensation on par with those given in other parts of the State for their lands lost in the PRRLI project.
We have agreed to do justice and will take up their problems to the government," said Marri Janardhan Reddy.
On the other hand, farmers who had taken part in the Revenue Darbar said that till now, the concerned revenue officials have not paid them full compensation to their lands and the contractors are taking up construction works in their lands without taking their permission.
Unless and until the government pays full and equitable payment to our lands and houses, we will not allow the works in our lands.
Though the district authorities and the MLA tried to convince us, we are not going to budge from our stand until all our demands are met," said a farmer, who took part in the programme.
